What Is DEXA Imaging?
DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) is a specialized imaging technique designed to assess your bone mineral density accurately. Through DEXA scans, our physicians can evaluate bone health, diagnose osteoporosis, and estimate the risk of fractures. These scans are conveniently available at our outpatient Breast Center located at 11450 North Meridian Street, Suite 100 in Carmel, Indiana.
At Northwest Radiology, our priority is to ensure that you receive attentive and compassionate care throughout your DEXA scan process. We are dedicated to providing you with an exceptional care experience.
DEXA imaging measures bone density, helping assess the risk of fractures and diagnose osteoporosis. It is a quick and painless procedure that typically involves minimal radiation exposure, making it safe for routine use.
What to expect
You’ll remain fully clothed during the scan, lying comfortably on a table while the scanner passes over you. If you have clothing that contains metal (such as jeans or an underwire bra), you will have to remove them for the scan.
After your exam
Your DEXA results will be available promptly, and your doctor will discuss any necessary lifestyle changes or treatments with you.
“I have been going to Northwest Radiology for years. Their prices cannot be beaten. I have always been treated warmly and with lots of care regardless of what kind of scanning I’m getting done. I was in and out in 17 minutes.”
