What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) harnesses a potent magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to generate intricate images of your organs, soft tissues, bones, and various internal body structures.
Unlike CT scans and x-ray imaging, MRI does not employ radiation to create images. At Northwest Radiology, we guarantee a secure, pain-free, and non-invasive experience for all our MRI patients. Our team is with you every step of the process, ready to address any questions and ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
MRI uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to generate detailed images of the body’s soft tissues and organs. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use ionizing radiation, making it a safe option for imaging various parts of the body, including the brain and spinal cord.
What to expect
The machine’s magnetic field is strong, so inform the technologist if you have any metal implants or devices.
After your exam
MRI results may take a bit longer to process, but your doctor will inform you about the next steps after reviewing them.
“The staff was friendly and the MRI went smoothly…I was a little claustrophobic and anxious going in, but I got to listen to music in the headphones, so the time went faster and it was more relaxing. This was very helpful and the tech also made sure I was OK.” B.W. | MRI Patient
